Hi Rafique,

Lots has changed since I wrote this post and I would now say that the best program out there is Chinese Pod which comes with a monthly subscription but is well worth the cost. (I am in no way affiliated with that program). As for writing and character training, Clavis Sinica is also not bad, but maybe more suited to intermediate/advanced students. Just my opinion. Of course the free test trials like Rocket Chinese are what they are and if this is your first crack at Chinese, do give it a try cause they are free and well worth it to get a hang of the basics.
